Charter school expansion latest win for school choice in Mississippi

More students in Mississippi will be able to attend charter schools outside their home districts under legislation signed into law this week.
Gov. Phil Bryant signed Senate Bill 2161, which allows students in C, D and F rated districts to cross district lines to attend a charter school, authorizes charter school employees to receive state benefits such as joining the Public Employees’ Retirement System, and enables charter operators to lease school buildings from districts at market value.
